Recognition of Mr. Bassilios Morcos with the Medal of the Order of Australia Award


The Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Bassilios Morcos OAM on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in this year’s Australia Day Honours 2025. This esteemed recognition places him among 320 distinguished Australians acknowledged by the Australian Government and the wider community for their exceptional service and contributions.


Mr. Bassilios has been a pillar of strength and progress for the Egyptian community in Australia. His instrumental role in establishing St Mary’s Coptic Orthodox College - the first Coptic Orthodox school outside Egypt - has left a lasting legacy that continues to benefit generations. His dedication has also been evident in the founding of various Australian-Egyptian associations, his contributions to Rotary Australia, and his active engagement in local government. As a successful businessman and a mentor, his impact is profound and far-reaching.


A devoted member of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Mr. Bassilios is widely respected for his wisdom and guidance, which many seek in times of need. His generosity and open-hearted nature have made him a trusted figure and a peacemaker within the community. His exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment serve as an inspiration for future generations.
